The inaugural T10 Andalusian Cup was held at the GOval in June 2023. Apart from being a great opportunity to host other teams in Andalusia at our spiritual home, it was also a fantastic initiative of our club. The tournament was such a success that we have decided to make this an annual event to close each season. The 2024 edition will take place on Saturday June 8. Contact us to secure your place!
A great few days were had in September at the Granada Cricket Club Oval, when the Cricket España U15 Junior 8 vs 8 tournament hosted 33 players from across the Spanish regions including Madrid, Málaga and Mallorca. Players and their families made their way to Granada to enjoy some great weather and a competition held in a great spirit. We would like to thank Marcial Fernández Concejal de Personal y Deportes and Cristian Gálvez Concejal de Hacienda y Fiestas of The Ayuntamiento de Vegas del Genil for supporting the tournament and supplying the trophies. We look forward to continuing to grow the game of cricket in the local area.
In a hugely exciting initiative, the Granada Cricket Club (GCC) is planning to host the largest 6-a-side Cricket tournament in southern Europe in 2024. The tournament will feature cricket clubs coming from Spain and abroad, competing for the title in a fun and dynamic atmosphere that is typical of 6’ers cricket events. The event format has been hugely popular in Asia, and we expect it to be embraced in Europe. Our aim is to make it the premier 6-a-side tournament in Europe.
What is it?
Each game will consist of 5 x six-ball overs per side bowled from the same end and every player bowls 1 over except the wicketkeeper. Each team has a squad of 8 players, with 6 playing and when the fifth wickets falls, the remaining not out batter can bat until he is out, or their partner is run out.
As we continue to grow our men’s team playing numbers, we are also excited to introduce cricket training, and potentially teams, for women and juniors. If you are interested, please contact the club for more information.
Juniors cricket training is now occurring every Saturday morning from 10 to 12 midday, hosted by a qualified cricket coach.Oona Fortune and Aynsley Carter have successfully begun training sessions for women happening each Saturday morning. Hot off the press, we were really pleased to have Oona Fortune as the first female GCC player play against Monken Hadley on the 14th of October.
